This spectacular wine was tasted with Richard Geoffroy at the Vintner’s Hall in London, where he was holding a seminar on the three pillars of DP: Vintage, Oenotheque and Rosé. The 1975 is in a great harmony right now, a complete and feminine wine. Sweet and surprisingly youthful nose, elegantly fruity, a tiny hint of mushroominess, rich coffee tones. Lovely width and length. This wine has still a great future ahead, no signs of tiring.
I got another opportunity to taste the DP Oenotheque with Richard Geoffroy at the Hautvillers abbey in January 2008. Despite the winemakers carefully examining each and every Oenotheque discorged, this bottle was not quite up to the previous encounter’s level. Similar notes but a slightly disturbed champagne missing the charming harmony of the December bottle.
