The picturesque village of Pinhão lies in the very heart of the Douro wine region. The unspoiled nature and rural spirit makes one feel like having traveled 50 years back in time. There, on the river bank of the Douro, lies an XVIIIth century residence, the stylish Relais & Chateaux hotel Vintage House. Around forty cosy rooms with spectacular views to the river, wonderful terrace and lounge equipped with a convincing list of ports and wines.

Quinta do Noval Nacional 1975, Port, Portugal 94/2008

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

This wine is a rare treat and I was thrilled to have my second taste of it in the Fine Club dinner in August 2008. My first encounter of it was in 2006, at Quinta do Noval. I rated it slightly better there, so the possible travels for this second bottle were likely to have taken out some of its quality potential. Medium-deep maturing colour. Lovely fresh red berry nose with raisins and pepper. The palate continues on the elegant path paved by the charming yet not too powerful or complex nose. Medium-bodied with smooth, silk-like texture and great degree of elegance. Not at all heavy or alcoholic. This vintage drinks very well now but can easily be kept at least until 2020.
