ESSI AVELLAN MW


Essi Avellan MW is the first Master of Wine from Finland and the second ever from the Nordic countries. She was awarded the Tim Derouet Memorial Award and the Lily Bollinger Medal for excellence in the Master of Wine examination. Essi Avellan is the Editor of the Fine Champagne Magazine and the Editorial Adviser of the FINE-magazines. Additionally, Avellan contributes internationally to a number of newspapers and wine and food magazines. Her main expertise area and passion is champagne.

Essi Avellan holds a Master’s Degree in business administration and has been working in the wine business for over ten years. Prior to founding her own business she worked as a Wine Buyer and Product Manager for the Nordic duty free ferry operator Silja Line.

For her Master of Science degree Avellan wrote a Master's Thesis about wine brand building. Her Master of Wine dissertation studied the single vineyard champagne phenomenon.
